Caltrans has awarded the city of Santee two grants under the
Safe Route to Schools Program that will improve pedestrian safety and relieve
congestion at two local elementary schools.
The city will receive
a $449,200 grant to construct sidewalks on Prospect Avenue between Glen Oaks
Way and South Slope Drive, which will fill gaps in the sidewalks leading to
Chet Harritt School. The other grant for
$175,000 will allow the city to widen the sidewalks on Wethersfield Road in
front of Carlton Oaks School.The grants were among 139 projects awarded funding statewide from a field of 336 applications.
