Free Computer Workshop for Seniors

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

Computer instructor Len Berman

Computer wiz Len Berman is offering another workshop 10 a.m. on May 14 to help seniors boost their computer skills. The free class will be at Room 8A at Santee City Hall, 10601 Magnolia Avenue.

Berman has been teaching computer classes and tutoring seniors one-on-one for more than a decade.

His workshop in March focused on using the internet to save money. He told a great story about learning how to fix his own washing machine and the tail light of his car by viewing do-it-yourself videos on YouTube.

His upcoming workshop at the Santee Seniors’ Club  will explain the differences and similarities of the most popular search engines and browsers. Audience members are encouraged to ask questions.  Those who attend receive via email a detailed set of lesson notes.  More info is available by calling Recreation Services at (619) 258-4100 ext. 222.

Free Fitness Class for Seniors

Monday, May 21, 2012

The price is right for this 30-minute low-impact fitness class led by fitness instructor Sandy Swenson.

Swinging in Santee at Seniors' Club
Swenson teaches exercise routines that seniors can practice at home on their own. Classes vary from week to week, but typically include muscle toning, stretching, chair exercises and walking. Last week, participants warmed up by playing on the swing sets at Woodglen Vista Park.

Aside from improving your fitness, the class offers a chance to hang out with active seniors 55 and older and make new friends.

You don’t have to sign up or mess around with any paperwork. Just show up on Wednesdays wherever the Santee Senior Club is meeting that week. Check for locations online at the city’s website or call Community Services at 619-258-4100.

Bring a floor mat and wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

Senior Club Hikes New Nature Trail

Thursday, June 9, 2011

Members of the Santee Seniors’ Club took a guided tour of the new Mast Park West nature trail on Monday morning (June 6).  The weather was sunny and mild as the group hiked along the trail, which extends for about a half-mile from Carlton Hills Blvd. to the Carlton Oaks golf course. The club’s next “Out and About” outing will be a July 12  trip to the Coronado ferry terminal. If you’d like to participate, email recreation coordinator Judi Callicott at jcallic@ci.santee.ca.us or call her at (619) 258-4100 ext. 257.
