Pedal with Pride on Bike to Work Day

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Cyclists participating in Bike to Work Day can get pampered with refreshments, words of encouragement and free T-shirts by dropping by a pit stop sponsored by the city of Santee this Friday, May 30.
The city’s Community Services Department will staff the Bike-to-Work booth at the intersection of Mast and Carlton Hills boulevards from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Last year, we distributed snacks, soft drinks and shirts to 19 bicyclists participating in the event.
Santee’s pit stop will be among 90 set up throughout San Diego County on Bike to Work Day, a national event observed annually on the third Friday in May.
Last year, more than 8,400 people countywide signed up for Bike to Work Day and logged more than 216,000 bicycle commute miles during the month of May.
Bike-to-Work Day participants can become eligible for weekly prize drawings by registering with Sandag’s iCommute program at http://www.icommutesd.com/events/bike-to-work-day

Upgrade on Town Center Parkway Underway

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Town Center Parkway is now one way
Construction began this week on a $3.5 million infrastructure improvement project aimed at encouraging development of a movie theater and entertainment complex at a 6.74-acre mixed use parcel north of Trolley Square Shopping Center
“When these improvements are complete, there will be no question where the future of Town Center lies,” said Santee City Manager Keith Till. “This will add real dazzle at the connection of Trolley Square and the exciting new venues to come.”
The initial phase of work calls for installing a sidewalk, landscaping  and underground utilities along 800 feet of Town Center Parkway and widening the road by 13 feet, beginning  west of the Riverview office complex.
Construction work during the first phase, which will be finished in June, will require Town Center Parkway to become a one-way, west-to-east  street between Cuyamaca Street and Riverview Parkway.
Work will take place in two shifts:  from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The second phase calls for construction of a raised pedestrian crossing  –a  traffic calming feature – across Town Center Parkway.  The idea is to provide a seamless pedestrian link between Trolley Square and the Metro Transit station and the future entertainment complex. The project  also includes the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Town Center Parkway and Riverview Parkway.
Construction of the second phase is expected to be completed in October 2014. The project,   which is being financed with redevelopment funds, is being managed by the San Diego Association of Governments in conjunction with ABC Construction.
